Thurs ᚦ

Thurs runeThurs or thurisaz; giant

Icelandic rune poem: Þurs er kvenna kvöl, ok kletta búi, ok varðrúnar verr

The giant is the torture of women, and cliff-dweller, and husband of a giantess

Thurs is the rune most associated with the god Thor, thus linked to lightning and thunder, and male sexual prowess. It is a rune of protection, possibly violent protection, and of wild uncontrollable rage. Using it can trigger chaos or irretrievable damage.

In the final chapters of Hammer of Fate, the first novel of the Rune Song trilogy, Adelais invokes thurs with cataclysmic consequences.
