Isa ᛁ

IsaIsa: ice

Icelandic rune poem: Iss er árbörkr, ok unnar þak, ok feigra manna fár.

Ice is the bark of rivers, and roof of the wave, and destruction of the doomed.

Isa is the third of the menacing runes associated with the Nornir, the weavers of fate. It represents the primordial stillness of ice, which can enable life when combined with fire. It is also a binding force.

In the Rune Song trilogy, seidhkonur (‘wise women’ of the old gods) use ísa to constrain or slow the actions of enemies in the way that ice inhibits the flow of water.

For introductions to other runes, there’s a pull-down menu under the ‘Norse Runes’ tab. More details about the Rune Song epic fantasy trilogy via my ‘books’ pages or on Amazon UK or Amazon.com. All books are published by Second Sky / Hachette and are available in print, ebook, and audiobook formats
