Bjarkan ᛒ
Bjarkan; birch
Icelandic rune poem: Bjarkan er laufgat lim, ok lítit tré, ok ungsamligr viðr.
The birch is a leafy twig, and little tree, and fresh young shrub.
Bjarkan is a feminine rune, associated with birth and renewal. It has connotations of concealment and protection, as a mother protects her young. It is the rune of unconditional, caring, non-sexual love, and a rune of healing.
In Hammer of Fate, the first of the Rune Song trilogy, Adelais invokes bjarkan during her escape.
For introductions to other runes, there’s a pull-down menu under the ‘Norse Runes’ tab. More details about the Rune Song epic fantasy trilogy via my ‘books’ pages or on Amazon UK or Amazon.com. All books are published by Second Sky / Hachette and are available in print, ebook, and audiobook formats.
