Algiz ᛉ

algizAlgiz: protection, or ‘elk’.

There is no surviving Icelandic rune poem for algiz, but in Blood of Wolves, the third of the Rune Song trilogy, I filled the gap with:

Hjortin er konugur skógarins, ok dádýrsherra, ok elskaður guðanna.

The stag is the king of the forest, and the hind’s lord, beloved of the gods.

Algiz is the splayed hand, the upright thumb and two fingers warding sign against evil still used in some cultures. Often found carved into spears for protection and victory. Algiz is also the symbol of a stag or elk’s horns. It invokes courage and invites divine power towards positive outcomes.

For introductions to other runes, there’s a pull-down menu under the ‘Norse Runes’ tab. More details about the Rune Song epic fantasy trilogy via my ‘books’ pages or on Amazon UK or Amazon.com. All books are published by Second Sky / Hachette and are available in print, ebook, and audiobook formats.
